My Model Railroading

Third Time is a Charm

July 16 2005 the family and I moved into our first home together as a family.  It is an aging four bedroom home in good shape located in Saint Paul Minnesota.  There is a main level, upstairs and a BASEMENT!!!  well ok the basement is more like a dungeon but there is a fair amount of space available for storage, computer office area, laundry and oh yeah........

A MODEL RAILROAD!!!!

As soon (ok before) we moved in the Mrs. granted space for a model railroad.  Truly I do not think she understands how in the heck I can enjoy something like trains to the extent that I do.  Dont get me wrong, she enjoys railfanning with me.  But I think she enjoys the time together more than enjoying the trains per say....which is cool.  She supports my hobby and interest which is very cool.

By early August 2005 I had started planning the Canton Division.  At that time I had hoped to start construction by mid fall 2005.  Then I was looking at Spring 2006.  Well, real life does come first and we have discovered many projects that need to be done in regards to our home.  We still like our home very much, it is in good shape but there are some things that need to be done for cosmetic, more storage, and other items.  This will delay the construction somewhat.  However, all plans are a go for the Canton Division.

As of today (21 JAN 2006), the layout area is still occupied with items yet unpacked from the move.  This project has to be completed before other projects can be done.  Here is what needs to be done for the layout area:

1.  Boxes unpacked and items put away - this could take a little while :)
2.  Wall cracks and holes need patching.  It is an old house, built in 1910.
3.  Walls need to be sealed to prevent moisture from coming through.
4.  Electrical Outlets need to be installed.  There is a mass shortage of outlets in the basement.  Currently there are only two.
5.  Painting of the walls and floor to brighten up the area.
6.  Overhead lighting to be installed.
7.  Now bench work construction can start......could be a while yet.

Well that about sums things up so far.  Be sure to check back every so often for progress reports under "Layout Planning"
